You will find us at the bottom of Foxton Locks, the longest set of staircase locks in the country, where many thousands of boats pass through every year. The network of footpaths and towpaths provide ideal walking and cycling, whilst the locks themselves provide education and wonder for all ages of visitors. Situated in the restored engine house of the Inclined Plane, the onsite museum holds many artifacts explaining both the history of the locks and also of the Inclined Plane itself, a magnificent example of Victorian engineering. Then simply step outside and see it all for yourself.
If relaxing is more your scene, visit Bridge 61 pub and shop where you can enjoy a variety of award winning beers, warming hot drinks or cooling ice creams whilst watching the boats go by. Lunch and snacks are also available as are canal gifts, postcards, local wares, books, groceries, sweets & ices. You name it, we have probably got it!
Passenger boat trips run most weekends from April to October or if you fancy something a little bit different, you can hire a boat for the whole day, bring along family and friends and really experience the canals first hand!
If you are already a boat owner, repairs, recoveries and servicing are also available, simply click above for more details.
The site is freely accessible to the public all year round and you will find us open every day. Pay and Display car parks are available at both the top and bottom of the locks. Parking after 5pm is FREE, however, if you are planning to park between 9am – 5pm, then you will need to bring change for the car parks. The country park car park at the top of the locks is £2 all day, and the bottom car park is 2.50 for 4 hours or £4 for 8 hours.
The resident ducks and swans are sure to give you a warm welcome too especially if you have some food to throw to them (available in the shop)!
